The Laser Kitten Story

Written by Laser Kitten Creative Director/Founder, Marisa Ravel

Born and raised in Northern California, I've always expressed myself through mixed media art. As a little girl in the 80's and 90's, I loved painting, sculpting, designing jewelry, decorating my clothes with neon puff paint, and covering everything I touched in glitter.  After high school, I was off to college in San Francisco, to study at the Academy of Art University. In 2003, I graduated with a B.F.A. in Advertising Design. I was quickly hired as an Art Director, working on ad campaigns for successful clients. I was also teaching in my field at night. Advertising was rewarding, but I also wanted to start my own business.

Laser Kitten started out as my custom laser cut jewelry line, in 2007. I made nameplates and pieces based on social media and internet culture. The line was becoming successful but after years of doing it all by myself, in 2011, I decided to focus back on my advertising career. I was often asked if I was still taking orders for custom jewelry, making it hard for me to ignore. In 2013, I breifly brought Laser Kitten back for a few commissioned pieces, and then went back to working in my field. In early 2015, I took a break from work and traveled around Europe for 6 months. While on a walk in London, I spotted the Fashion Retail Academy. I looked into their programs and decided to take a summer course titled "How To Start Your Own Fashion Business". The course and travel experience gave me the push I needed to bring back Laser Kitten, but this time, as a clothing and accessories line.

Now, launching from Los Angeles, I'm so excited to bring you the fashion line of my dreams. Everything at Laser Kitten is a conversation piece, ranging in reimagined designs from the 80’s and 90’s, to tongue-in-cheek pop culture references. Thanks for stopping by, please feel free to get in touch!
